Creek Bed Ghosts
Ghost

submitted by Jill Vandervile

This all started in Valdosta, Georgia in 1992. I was 19, and i was camping with 3 friends about my age. We were celebrating our graduation. We decided to just bring a flimsy tent, and 3 blankets, it was summer, and it gets pretty warm in South Georgia. We were about 3 hours from home, so we left right after work, and took us until dark to get where we wanted to camp. It was beside a creek bed, and we figured it would be a nice spot to set up our tent. There were 2 guys and 2 girls-the guys were paul and greg and the girls were Lily and myself. We were both dating and sort of made it a 'double date'. We ate baked beans from the can, since we didnt want to build a fire so close to night, and it was humid already. We went swimming in the creek, and it was freezing cold in one spot. We couldnt help but notice the large amounts of small dead fish that had floated to the banks. I was too scared to jump in, of course, so Lily tried to convince me by getting in.

I was watching her swim, when her expression changed from happy to horrified. She had seen something in the bottom sands of the creek. I thought she was joking, to taunt me-until she screamed and swam out of the water and ran into the tent. I went to her, and she was shaking, pale as a white sheet. I asked her what happened, and she said she saw a small girl's drowning face in the bottom of the creek..I still thought she was joking, until i got greg to go see it for himself. We decided to stay, since it was just a face, and it was about 10, and it would be 1 am at least until we would get back home.

We decided to go to sleep, but we were all too nervous, so we mostly just laid there, our ears and eyes awaiting any sound or thing we may see or hear. I kept seeing a blue light from the creek, but no one else said anything, so i figured maybe it was just me. Finally, Lily said something about it, and we looked through a tent window for a better view. It was like a small girl (about 5), walking around the creek, as if looking for something. We couldnt see anything as far as facial expressions, because of her long hair-but she would pace back and forth constantly. After about 10 minutes of this, she finally fell into the creek, and bobbed around for a few minutes. She finally sank and didnt resurface. By this time we were scared, and the fact that the game warden came to investigate the noise right at that time didnt help either. We plan to go back this July and see who that girl is, and when she died.
