Hotel Spirit

submitted by Sonja

I hardly know where to start. It happened almost 4 years ago today. My husband and I were visiting our daughter in Phoenix, before her wedding, which took place in Las Vegas on March 28th, 1992. We are from a small town in central Wisconsin, not quite like the home of picket fences, but similar. While in Phoenix we decided to take a little side trip to Nogales Mexico, via Tucson. We spent a lovely day in Tucson, sight seeing, and we even took a nice drive up Lemon mountain. We decided to stay the night in Tucson and go on to Mexico the next morning. Anyway we took a room at The Comfort Inn, off Hwy I-10.

We had had a busy day, so we took a quick swim (it seemed pretty warm compared to Wisconsin) and happily crawled into bed. Sometime during the night I woke up and saw a lady dressed in a fitted traveling costume with her hair all done up on top of her head, with one of those little hats perched on top with an ostrich feather on it. She looked like she could have just gotten off, or was preparing to board a stage coach, it was that era of dress. She was leaning over my husband's side of the bed, and she was just looking at him. Well I started to jab him with my elbow, in an effort to wake him up, while trying not to take my eyes off of her. Finally when he wouldn't wake up I looked over at him and shook him. As he was waking up I looked back up to where the lady had been standing, and she was disappearing into a little wisp of cloud, and finally within a few seconds, she was completely gone. My husband was groggy, and was wondering why I was jabbing him with my elbow. He saw nothing at all by the time he woke up, and I am still sure that he thinks that I was dreaming. Sometimes now I wonder if that's a possibility too. We did both go back to sleep, without too much trouble, so I guess I didn't feel at all threatened by the experience. I can honestly say, that ghosts were the furthest thing from my mind when I went to sleep, and in my whole life I had never seen anything even remotely resembling anything I would have called a ghost up until that time. I wish now that I had asked at the desk before leaving the hotel if anyone else had ever reported a similar experience, but at the time I just chalked it up to an overactive imagination and was a little embarrassed to even mention it. And what was a ghost doing in that hotel anyway? If it was an old mansion type hotel I guess I could understand it, but there she was, and that is all there is to it. Well at least now I feel better that I have told someone else this story. It really isn't a scary ghost story, but I find that I have thought about that night often in the last four years, and I am probably as puzzled about this sighting as you are.

If any of you stayed at that hotel, and experienced a similar incident I would really like to hear about it. Thank you for listening to my story. I am looking forward to reading many more of yours.
