Poem

Kosovar Spring

Pure white snow blankets the earth
Clean cold snow is the winter
By night a sparkling magic carpet
Upon which new moons come and go
By day it glares and glitters up at the sun
All season long silent snowflakes flurry and fall
Upon this ever-virgin coat

With Spring
The mountain streams
Melt into the valleys
The forests echo with sound
Rising sap and thudding
The trees stretch and shed their wet white shroud

In fair Kosovo
The springtime brings contract witnesses
Flooding across the border
To exhume and analyze
the rotting corpses - so young, so old
whose slaughtered souls await some humane justice
The Digging Season has begun
Our common shame at last unearthed
