For their loyalty only asking a hug and a nourishing meal
Showing faith in you simply because you are there
Bringing out humanness in a human created by simple care
Unconditional love is what these beautiful creatures seem to express
When you're old and gray providing company and friendship not loneliness and duress
I myself have felt love as to another human for my pets past and present
Hope you have experienced the same feelings otherwise my words you may resent
Perhaps we humans could learn a lesson from these precious gifts from God
They've never started wars never deliberately threatened life on this wonderful earth's sod
