Messages From Your Temporal Lobe

As always you awaken, at once alert.
The days sounds penetrate the window.
Dreams still invade your mind.
You fight to remember them all,
but soon most are taken away.
We dream of the past and see those we knew.
Always the present is not good enough.
We try to move up, move on, make things better,
And still we wish to be where we were ten years before,
or five years, or young again.
Our dreams in life are taken away
like those of an awakened sleeper,
Always struggling to get them back.
If only our minds could learn to be happy in the present.
For the present will be the past, someday.
If we could learn that...
